Recent Classmate Passings We are deeply saddened to report the passing of
Reed Congress, Sabrina Redmond, and Loyse Clay.
We do not have an obituary to publish for Reed Congress. His death was reported during the Frdiay night 50th reunion celebration. We would post a memorial statement for him if anyone has access or wold like to assist in drafting. Al Eason did lead a moment of slience in his honor that night.
Sabrina Redmond passed away Wednesday Nov. 22, 2013. We were fortunate to have her attend our 50th Reunion. She experienced complications of an existing medical condition while receiving care at the St. Mary's Medical Center. Barbara Blacknoll informed us that services for Sabrina will be held at the Williams and James Mortuary on Delmar Blvd., Saturday Dec. 16, 2013.
Loyse Clay passed away peacefully on November 24, 2013. We do have an obitiary for him the is posted on the next message below. We received the Celebration of Life informartion too late to post for the class to be notified. Fortunately, we did have Gilda Brown Travagline attend the service representing the Class of '73.
We send our thoughts, prayers, and love to the families of Reed, Sabrina, and Loyse. Your loved ones will be greatly missed by all of us.
Loyse Clay Obituary Mr. Loyse Clay, Jr., was born in St. Louis, Missouri on June 5, 1955 to the union of Reverend Loyse Clay, Sr. and Ernestyne Kyles. His father preceded him in death.
Loyse attended and graduated from the public schools of Webster Groves, MO. He was an active athlete and member of the basketball, football, and baseball teams for the WHS Statesmen. He was employed with Aspeq Industrial Engineering, retiring in 2021 after 38 years of service as the Chief Quality Inspector.
Loyse was excited to be united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Charlet Elaine Hinkle on August 30, 1980 in Webster Groves, Missouri. To this union one bundle of joy, Krystal Elaine Clay was born.
As a child, Loyse was christened by Reverend W. Blakely at St. Paul AME Church. Loyse later confessed his faith at Parks Chapel AME Church under Reverend E. Bagby. He loved attending Sunday School and was a member of several ministries. He most enjoyed presiding over the monthly Youth Sunday worship service under the leadership of Reverend O.H. Brown. Later he was baptized at First MB Church of Ballwin under the leadership of the late Pastor Richard Rollins where he was ordained as a deacon. This was the beginning of Loyse’s journey with Discipleship. He continued studying God’s word and learning how to make Disciples for Jesus.
In 2007, Deacon Clay joined Friendly Temple MB Church under the leadership of Bishop Michael Jones and quickly got involved with the ministry. Bishop Jones appointed Loyse to serve as the Ministry Leader for the Discipleship Team in addition to him serving on the Deacon Ministry. Loyse was a God-Fearing man with a passion for witnessing and teaching the new member classes. He loved ministering to his team members and most importantly sharing the gospel and leading individuals to Christ. Loyse lived his life as a faithful servant of Christ, and many were touched and blessed by him.
Loyse enjoyed fishing from his boat, ‘’Elaine,’’ and loved sharing the fruits of crappie, bass and deer meat with all. He also loved to hunt and play golf. Deacon Clay’s greatest passion of all was his family. He was known for his big heart and care for others. His family remembers him as a vital piece of their circle of love for each other. He cherished and loved his wife and family dearly. Loyse departed this life peacefully on November 24, 2023.
Loyse (affectionately known as Spanky, King, Handsome Hunk, Boompie, Diddy, and Nunky) leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Charlet; daughter, Krystal and grand-puppy, Kokoa of Fenton, MO; mother, Ernestyne Brown of Florissant, MO; one sister, Alisa Jones of Florissant, MO; two special nieces, Annanda Jones of Florissant, MO, and Andrea Jones of Hazelwood, MO, mother in-law, Ruby Hinkle of Union, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Saturday Dec. 2, 2013 at the Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church 5515 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive St. Louis, MO 63112. Private burial will be held at a later date.
